What to Expect:
Chinese Medicine is the art and science of observing specific patterns in the body that may be out of balance causing you pain and/or distress and treating you beyond your symptoms at the root of the problem. During your first session, you will meet with one of our licensed acupuncturists, and discuss your detailed health history as well as a series of Chinese diagnosis questions. After this information has been covered, the acupuncturist will feel your wrist pulses, look at your tongue, and may do a Japanese abdominal diagnosis, called the Hara. These are ways in which we can find the patterns of imbalance at the root cause, and work our way up to treat the whole body.
Once you are comfortable on the treatment table, the acupuncturist will then proceed with the treatment by inserting thin needles into areas of the body that connect to your specific constitution. Chinese medicine looks at your overall constitution and acupuncture adjusts specific patterns that may be out of balance to treat your discomfort and pain. You will be able to relax with the treatment for about 30-40 minutes. Other therapies like cupping or gua sha may also be used during this time. When the treatment is over, the acupuncturist will remove the needles and then meet with you to discuss any herbal prescriptions, dietary and lifestyle suggestions, and work with you on a follow up treatment plan.
Initial phone consultations to discuss how we can work with your ailments are always free. If you would like to find out how we can work together, or to schedule an appointment, contact us at (510) 463-4304. You can also email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Different methods are emphasized and specific points stimulated according to how an individual is aging. A study in 1996 in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that 90% of the 300 cases treated with Cosmetic Acupuncture had marked effects including the leveling of wrinkles, improved facial muscle elasticity and overall rejuvenation.
Gua sha and Cupping:
Gua sha (aka, scraping), and cupping are common modalities to help treat pain. These are both ways of encouraging circulation to an affected area and to stimulate movement. If gua sha and cupping are used during your acupuncture treatment, they are included at no additional charge.
Massage is one of the branches of Chinese medicine and beneficial as a stand alone treatment or in combination with acupuncture. Massage can improve circulation, relieve stress, anxiety, and depression, ease pain, enhance recovery after injury or surgery, strengthen the immune system, and contribute to an overall increase in health and well being. Our style of massage is based in the theory of Chinese medicine and is performed with the patient clothed on a massage table. We also offer abdominal massage, which can more specifically focus on improving digestive health, menstrual regularity, and fertility.
