What to Expect:

Chinese Medicine is the art and science of observing specific patterns in the body that may be out of balance causing you pain and/or distress and treating you beyond your symptoms at the root of the problem. During your first session, you will meet with one of our licensed acupuncturists, and discuss your detailed health history as well as a series of Chinese diagnosis questions. After this information has been covered, the acupuncturist will feel your wrist pulses, look at your tongue, and may do a Japanese abdominal diagnosis, called the Hara. These are ways in which we can find the patterns of imbalance at the root cause, and work our way up to treat the whole body.

Once you are comfortable on the treatment table, the acupuncturist will then proceed with the treatment by inserting thin needles into areas of the body that connect to your specific constitution. Chinese medicine looks at your overall constitution and acupuncture adjusts specific patterns that may be out of balance to treat your discomfort and pain. You will be able to relax with the treatment for about 30-40 minutes. Other therapies like cupping or gua sha may also be used during this time. When the treatment is over, the acupuncturist will remove the needles and then meet with you to discuss any herbal prescriptions, dietary and lifestyle suggestions, and work with you on a follow up treatment plan.
